Alanis Morissette was born in June 1, 1974 in Ottawa Canada. At an early age, Alanis became passionate about music, playing the piano and drum set at age 6. When she turned 10 in 1984, Morissette has already written her first song “Fate Stay With Me,” which she sent to Lindsay Morgan, a local folk singer who then recruited the young Alanis as her protégé. Morgan and Alanis co-founded a label and released “Fate Stay with Me” as a single, followed by a regular casting on a Nickelodeon show, “You Can’t Do That on Television.” 

Morissette came to New York for a “Star Search” audition, landed a spot on the talent competition, but lost after one round. However, this did not stop Alanis from pursuing her love for music. By 1988, Alanis signed a publishing deal with the MCA Publishing, which in turn, helped in funding a record deal with MCA Records Canada. In 1991, Alanis released her debut dance-pop album “Alanis” in Canada. She later become an opening act for rapper Vanilla Ice, which led to two nominations at the 1992 Juno Awards for ‘Best Dancing Recording’ and ‘Single of the Year’ for the single “Too Hot” and won the ‘Promising Female Vocalist of the Year’. 

By 1992, Alanis Morissette’s dance motif was replaced with a more ballad-based and lyrically artistic album featured in “Now is the Time,” which was also released in Canada. A year later, Alanis graduated high school and moved to Los Angeles, where she met songwriter/producer Glen Ballard. From 1993 to 1995, Alanis and Ballard worked on the album “Jagged Little Pill,” which was internationally released by Maverick Records in the spring of 1995. The first single “You Oughta Know” became a huge success, followed by several other songs like “All I Really Want,” “Hand in my Pocket,” “You Learn” and “Head Over Feet,” all of which reaching two twenty of Billboard 200 albums chart for over a year with 14 million copies sold in the U.S. and 30 million worldwide. 

After her Grammy-winning Jagged Little Pill album, Alanis went on an 18-month world tour. She then took a six-month break in India after her December 1996 show. With a successful career, Alanis continued to work on several albums, including the Grammy and Juno-winning 1998 “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie,” the 1999 “Alanis Unplugged,” 2002 “Under Rug Swept,” 2004 “So-Called Chaos,” 2005 “Jagged Little Pill Acoustic” and 2008 “Flavors of Entanglement.”
